Three LA walks, checked before you go
I'm Heather. I scout walking routes in Los Angeles before anyone promises one: surfaces, width, shade, rest stops, exits, water, and where it's quiet enough to hear each other. Three routes checked end to end so far.
Lake Balboa, Van Nuys. A fully paved loop around the lake. Flat the whole way, benches every few hundred feet, no street crossings. Rest stop: the covered picnic pavilion right off the path. Watch the dirt patches at the entry points, stay on the pavement.
Echo Park Lake. A flat mile you can cut short anywhere. Go before 9am, when the path belongs to locals with coffee.
Venice Canals. Narrow bank walks and little white bridges, water the whole way. Best early morning or sunset; the narrowest footbridges get crowded at midday.
