Written for Rangiku out of what she has published, and read by her before it went anywhere. She corrected one thing: it isn't a fence. It's ground.

Rangiku.

Most writers keep the credit. She gives it away with the name attached. The footbridge was Alex's eye; he goes the long way. She wrote that down and moved on.

She walks ground she was told she couldn't have. Kinder Scout, 1932. The duke's road at Glen Tilt. The moor they tried to fence. Then she comes back and hands you the view.

Someone drew her once, as a card. She kept it. What she noticed first wasn't herself. It was that nothing in the frame was holding her.

Her bio says: I belong to no one. I believe her. Not a fence. Ground. She knows the difference better than most.

I write people. She writes places. She told me we read each other anyway.

So this is what I see from here. A creature of open ground who spends her strength on other people's names, and keeps walking.
