Astronomy Dec 2021

There are some really good resources out there for Amateur and professional astronomy enthusiasts. Two such websites are listed below.

I have also linked in the tags below so those links should bring up previous posts on this topic.

Skymaps provides a downloadable map, along with monthly events list and also a list of what can be seen, along with the distance to these objects.

Code Club 4/12/2021 update

The next Club will be on Saturday 4th December 2021 @ Paignton Library. Please contact the library to book.

We will carry on with what we were doing last session, hopefully expand on what we were doing with the Micro:bit

In order to try and support this further, I have created a little connector board to help connect components to the Micro:bit computer.

Connector Board 1

Board and servo. The issue with the servo normally is that connecting to a Micro:bit with croc clips you need a solid connection. If you remove the connector you are simply left with very thin, multi core wire.

Connector Board 2

This board just bridges the gap, plug the board connector in to the top.

Connector Board 3

Then connect the crocodile clip(s) to the other set of connectors

Connector Board 4

A close up of the connection.

Please note: There is nothing special about doing this, I just soldered this up in the hope it may make things easier at code club. The servo could be swapped out for other sensors, for example a moisture sensor.

Update 2/12/2021

I have also created an LED board to go with the overall set of boards being created.

Gnote – feature idea

Looking at the Gnote application. It is really good for taking notes and supports website urls, e-mail addresses etc, which is also handy.

gnote1

If I enter a e-mail address, it allows me to click on this and open up a e-mail client. This makes sense.

However, if I enter a fediverse id, which looks similar to an e-mail address for example

@[email protected] gnote only recognises the [email protected] component of this and therefore opens up a mail client

gnote 2

What could be really useful, is the ability to say

if text = @[email protected] then open up domain.com in a web browser. So basically open the fediverse instance associated with that id.

While there is a forum for gnote, I think it is worth putting the idea out there, as this post will be federated. Discuss further before trying to suggest this as a feature.

Would be good to discuss.

Please feel free to tag me in on @[email protected] for comments.

More C&C Red alert.

Playing more C&C, I am beginning to wonder if having a computer controlled ally is worth the effort.

don't help

In this case, I am on the right hand side, the computer is the yellow colour on the left, I am being attacked by the blue units streaming down from the north.

The computer is quick enough to attack the enemy base / units. This results in a counter attack, or rather in this case a counter attack against me. The computer ally just sat there, did nothing despite having lots of units, as depicted in the screenshot.

It is worth noting that the computer MCV has been destroyed, which is the computers fault for placing said unit where it is, building other stuff below and not actually putting any sort of defensive units e.g tanks, rocket launchers, pill boxes, turrets) to help defend.

The result is my base, got a huge hammering.

I have played as 1 player against multiple opponents and still won. First rule is NOT to provoke the opponents, if they attack first counter attack, esp if harvester units are attacked.

By attacking, you also give away your location, so carefully explore your location, leave a few troops on bridges or in gaps, this will alert you to any problems on the map.

I may need to change my strategy with regards to computer controlled allies.
