Share Graphics on Next Cloud

So Further to the video / post yesterday

In a similar way to how you can share a video on BBB you can share graphics in markdown, by doing something similar. This works on WriteAs / WriteFreely

I uploaded ILoveFS.png

So adding /download?.png to

https://nc.phillw.org/index.php/s/BsMHAQ8sKDKExfW

Embeds the graphics in the page.

I Love Free Software

Anxiety: Supporting Teens to Support Themselves

As well as looking for work, I am also trying to take any opportunity to learn new skills. The Creative Education courses are really good for this.

So to day I completed “Anxiety: Supporting Teens to Support Themselves” which, as with the course I did last week, has lots of really good useful hints and tips on how to help teenagers cope with anxiety, how we as adults can help, but also reflect on our own experience which can feed in to how we can help.

The important take away from this is, that adults, we can listen, re-assure and use many techniques and strategies to help. By understanding how a person is feeling, we can adjust our strategy.

Course also covered how sleep can play a part in this, how lack of sleep can cause issue, how we can make stress and anxiety manageable by looking at what works for the young person we are trying to help.

Also looked at how we can empower young people to take control and self manage, or if there is a situation that is out of their full control.

So another really useful course, if there is another 'free for a week course' next week, I will sign up to that too.

These courses may also be useful in other work too, perhaps at code club or even when helping or working with adults.

I am also interested in Space, astronomy and space sciences, so I think going forward Mental Health of Astronauts may be a very interesting field, being on the Moon is a short trip, getting to Mars, will be a longer, more dangerous journey, we need to look after the people that go on long space missions. Perhaps also look after their families back on Earth, especially children and young people who have family members on these missions.

Hopefully employers will appreciate my efforts to improve my skills and knowledge.

Sharing video from Nextcloud to Big Blue Button

Big Blue Button is designed to be a teaching platform, allowing the sharing of video for use in presentations. The following is a run through on how to share a video stored on NextCloud with your room on Big Blue Button.

  • Login to Next Cloud and Big Blue Button
  • Locate your video on Next cloud
  • You may have to convert to mp4 (next cloud has an option for this)

You then need to share the link to the file but add /download?.mp4 to the end.

In this example I am sharing PeertubeLogin.mp4. To make things easier I have added a file with the links in

  • So in this case I have share url (which is copied) as illustrated

https://nc.phillw.org/index.php/s/ZnayrwAS5GA75cf

  • add /download?.mp4

Which makes

https://nc.phillw.org/index.php/s/ZnayrwAS5GA75cf/download?.mp4

  • Share the above on Big Blue Button as illustrated in the video (hopefully)

It may seem complex but once you have done this a few times, you get used to it, If you then have a text file (so links are not clickable) you will find it easier to copy / paste the url to the video.

Periodic table of data

I found a link to this on Twitter, part of last weeks National Periodic table day. This is a really useful set of periodic tables, each one covers a different topic, e.g Origins, name origins, elements in the Sea, Phones, Toxicity etc.

So an example is:– Periodic table of Isotopes, which gives information on how many isotopes there are for each element.

FOSS And Crafts Podcast

If you enjoy the LibreLounge podcast [2], Christopher Lemmer Webber [6] appears to have left this, and started up a new podcast called FOSS AND Crafts [3]. This is a “A podcast about free software, free culture, and making things together”

This is something that is worth checking out, as with LibreLounge you can subscribe to the podcast and also download on .ogg [5] and .mp3 file formats.

I wrote a post in December on how to subscribe to LibreLounge using vlc [7] so the procedure is the same.

Bio metric mass surveillance

More mass surveillance appears to be on the cards, so we need to sign a petition against this, however if you are in the UK, which has left the EU, then the UK isn't listed so I have added a link so you can find you local MP and write to them about this.

We need to make sure a similar law does not end up on our statute books.

We aren‘t walking barcodes! Sign the brand new European Citizens‘ Initiative for banning biometric mass surveillance now!

Wayland book

“Wayland is intended as a simpler replacement for X, easier to develop and maintain. GNOME and KDE are expected to be ported to it.”

I found a link to a book, that explains the technical details behind Wayland. Seems to be a draft, but there is a lot of content for anyone who happens to be interested in this.

This on Mastodon by Newsbot.

See links below for details. I have included a link to x.org foundation for legacy.
