International Day Against DRM (IDAD)

The fourteenth International Day Against DRM (IDAD) #DayAgainstDRM took place on 4th December 2020. The Defective by Design (DbD) campaign needs your help to spread the word. This year's annual day in protest of Digital Restrictions Management (DRM) will be on December 4th, 2020, and will focus on streaming services' unjust use of DRM.

CryptPad 4

Furter to my previous post This is a quick look at The rich text document module of Crypypad.

The main screen gives several options, including password protecting files, Below this you can either start with a template, start a new document or once created open an existing document.

crypyPadText

The main editor screen.

crypyPadText2

This looks like most other modern editors, with access to all the usual tools. As Cryptpad is also lightweight it is really quick to use.

Uploading images to your Cryptdrive also allows them to be inserted in to your files. This is as easy as choosing the option file from the menu. It is a good idea to perhaps make sure this opens in a new tab, you may also want to create folders for different types of document. Do this early on, you can keep track of where files are easier.

crypyPadText3

Once inserted right clicking will give you access to image properties so you can, for example resize.

So Further to my earlier post

Just going to turn my attention to the Task manager component of the service, Kanban. This looks a little bit like Trello. However, it is less cluttered, and looks much nicer.

KanBan1

This is the main KanBan area, you can change the colours with the icon in the corner of the boards.

KanBan2

Click on the colour, you want each board to be. Once done your board starts to look a lot more attractive. By default colours are just grey.

KanBan3

The user list accessed via the user list

KanBan4

icon, is self explanatory, once you have invited other people they are listed here.

There is also a chat function, which is called up by the chat icon. KanBan5

KanBan6

Both Users and Chat are displayed by default, you can hide this and make the are look even less cluttered.

The icon in the top corner showing 9 dots, gives you access to the other modules that are available, All work is saved to the CryptDrive.

2/12/2020 Torbay in Tier 2

The England national lock down has now ended, Torbay is in Tier 2 restrictions.

Details on the Torbay Council Covid19 page here

Detailed information on what this means can be found on the government website here

I will post more info and update this post later today.

CryptPad 2

Further to my previous post. Signing up to CryptPad is a very quick, painless and simple process.

The signup page, asks for minimal information

cp1

After which you agree to some Terms Of Service

cp2

And that is it, take careful note of the fact if you lose your login info, you lose access to everything.

CryptPad

As I attended last years Libreplanet free software conference via IRC. This year the conference was virtual due to CoronaVirus. I found out about another useful website for collaboration, importantly it has a strong focus on privacy..

cryptpad1

Cryptpad has several useful tools:-

  • Rich text (Rich Text Editor)
  • Code (Code Editor)
  • Presentation
  • Sheet
  • Poll
  • Kanban (organisational thing like trello)
  • Whiteboard
  • CryptDrive (file storage)

You can easily collaborate and share with others too.

cryptpad1

So quite a good set of tools, I think combined with tools such as IRC for meetings (and sharing links) this sort of thing helps to decentralise the Internet. CryptPad is a Platform As A Service (PAAS), designed to be an alternative to google drive and Office 365.
