Climate : Time to get a grip
This link was posted to the fediverse. An very hard hitting article on the ITV news website, spelling out the reality of climate change and the damage we are doing to our planet as humans. You can read the article here.
I think when 11,000 scientists are all saying the same thing it is time we woke up and listened.
The fediverse seems to be about the only place that we can hold sensible, science and evidence based discussions. People are actually LEAVING mainstream social media, joining the fediverse to discuss as they feel safer and are not being subjected to the abuse they face on mainstream social media.

Code Club : Rocks and diamonds level skip
Due to the way the computers at Paignton Library are set up. Data is deleted upon logout. This is not very helpful as you can't save progress on games such as rocks and diamonds between sessions.
It is possible to jump levels, so you can skip to where you got to in the last session and carry on. The process is a little fiddly but I can't figure out another solution at present.
So hopefully this is useful.

Big Tech and more data abuse
This was shared on fedi earlier Congressional Report Finds Meta and Tax Prep Companies “Recklessly” Shared Taxpayers’ Data.
Clearly the IRS needs to make changes at their end, as the article states there is no way for people to file tax returns other than through companies that deal with this. The fact these companies are also sharing data with big tech is bad enough but from my view here, the fact they are happy to collect and receive this data is equally bad.
People need to get a grip on all this surely.
Code Club : Hour of code
So we are using Hour of code activities at Code Club. I am including a short video below just to illustrate how to get started with the Minecraft activities, however you can use the other themed coding activities such as Star Wars and Frozen among others.

Team Status
Having dropped out of the league due to lack of players leading to concerns about player safety. We are in the process of rebuilding the team. We have coaches, we have a place to train so we just need to build numbers so, we can re-enter the league either for the 2024 season, or more likely the 2025 season, with a squad, fully trained, fully ready for that season.
In the mean time we need to play 3 associate games to get back in the league.
We can also play friendlies, flag tournaments, scrimmage games along the way. At the same time we want to have fun playing the game we love OR by getting involved in other ways.

Code Club 22/7/2023 Write up
We had three new starters today, so as everyone is interested in Minecraft, I started everyone off with the Hour of Code Minecraft activities. This went really well,. kept everyone engaged with lots of valuable learning taking place.
I have also figured out how to set up Rocks and diamonds so we can skip completed levels and carry on from where people got to previously. I need to do this as the computers reset each time they are turned off, which means that progress data is also lost.

Organic Chemistry Modelling 2
I have started to build some common functional groups and related molecules. Here we have the Basic HydroCarbon Benzine ( C6 H6, by adding the OH (Alcohol) functional group we get Phenol (2nd picture). ( C6 H5 OH ).
We looked at basic Alkanes yesterday, if we take,for example Methane ( CH4 ) we can replace a Hydrogen with a OH group (Oxygen + Hydrogen) to make methanol. ( CH3 OH)
