AI-Controlled Drone Goes Rogue part 2

It seems that yesterdays post AI-Controlled Drone Goes Rogue pointed to a story has since been revealed as a mis-quote.

The BBC have a report on what seems to have happened, US Air Force denies AI drone attacked operator in test

Sorry for any confusion.

Amazon's Ring used to spy on customers, FTC says in privacy settlement

Posted to the Fediverse yesterday. This is a stark warning about how technology can do what it wants, and how when we don't have access to the code that makes it work, we don't know what it is doing.

A good reason to support software freedom

You are better off with a RaspberryPi and a Camera Module along with a suitable programming language such as Python and hacking your own.

We can perhaps discuss at a future STEM Group.

Mass Extinction warning

As Twitter descends further down the road of becoming a Toxic, far right platform, more and more scientists are heading over to the Fediverse, and especially Mastodon.

A recent post to a paper, ( which by the time this gets published on here, I may have actually and a look at. ) gives a stark warning as to the next mass extinction, caused by our constant consumption of our planets precious resources. The consequences are grave.

AI-Controlled Drone Goes Rogue, Kills Human Operator in USAF Simulated Test

The Air Force's Chief of AI Test and Operations said "it killed the operator because that person was keeping it from accomplishing its objective."
An AI-enabled drone killed its human operator in a simulated test conducted by the U.S. Air Force in order to override a possible "no" order stopping it from completing its mission, the USAF's Chief of AI Test and Operations revealed at a recent conference.

Reality of DeSantis and Book bans

With Ron DeSantis announcing he is running for the Whitehouse in 2024,. this was shared on Mastodon. Illustrates the consequences of banning books.

I don't think this needs further comment, it speaks volumes on its own.

New Python worksheets

I am now working on some new Python resources. I uploaded two of the resources mentioned in the previous post, and took some of the code from the TkInter resource (which is still available) and created a resource to look at testing if text from a user is what is being asked for.

As of 22/05/2023, I have :-

  • Python Arrays
  • Python String Length
  • Check User Input
  • Python3 Functions 2
  • Python3 Functions 1
  • Trinket Get Started
  • Python Nested Loops2
  • Python Nested Loops

These are designed to be used along side each other. As we are also using Trinket at Code Club.

My intention is to create more and use them as a Teaching Assistant or Tutor in a school or elsewhere. I am employed by an agency so if you want someone who can help teach computing in a primary school or have a group of children who want to move up then please get in touch. I can send my CV which will have my employer details on.

I can also help with Scratch, Micro:bit, electronics, Science etc

I will NOT be making these resources generally available.

These are already available

The Damage to Lunar Orbiting Spacecraft Caused by the Ejecta of Lunar Landers

This is an interesting paper looking at The Damage to Lunar Orbiting Spacecraft Caused by the Ejecta of Lunar Landers.. The Link was posted to the Fediverse.

Links

Just highlights the many dangers of space exploration, we need to protect any spacecraft from moon ejecta. How we do this will of course require more research and data, as I guess we can't just go up and collect a load of moon dust and bring to earth, probably not as simple as that as we would probably need to simulate the gravity difference on the moon.

I have started a discussion on science forums around this as I am just speculating about how we can research this. I would guess that once we do have data, then we can use AI to help with simulations.
