Counter petition to keep LGBT content on the curriculum.
The petition to remove #LGBT content from the uk curriculum now has 190,671 signatures, sigh. It only needed 100k to force a debate in parliament, so that will be scheduled by #Uk Gov.
The counter petition is rapidly gaining ground, being newer. It now has 33,030 signatures, but we need more!
Can followers in the UK help sign the counter petition.

Nuclear thermal rocket engine
This was posted to fediverse by NASA today, sounds like things are really moving in this area. What a period in history to study STEM and learn the skills to be part of this.

We’re partnering with @DARPA to demonstrate a nuclear thermal rocket engine in space. This new engine would allow us to do more science and reach destinations faster—key steps for sending the first crewed mission to Mars. read more

There are opportunities for people in the Uk to be part of this, as it will require world wide expertise to do this.

Florida Schools
For the most part, the Fediverse is full of stuff that is positive, however there is a very disturbing situation coming out of Florida and also other parts of the USA.
Teachers have been told to remove any books not sanctioned or approved by the state or obtained from specific suppliers (who would be approved), Not doing so will result in 3rd degree felony charge, (equivalent to manslaughter).
This is happening right now in the USA. There are similar policies being implemented in other states too.

I am sharing this as I feel it is important to let people know what us going on.
Quote from above:
Students are upset, especially LGBTQ students, said a Keller employee who spoke on the condition of anonymity for fear of professional retribution. “They want to see themselves in books, they want to see themselves reflected, and they’re not able to.”
The district wrote in a statement that the book selection “process we have in place … allows librarians to take the lead in curating our libraries, while inviting our community to provide input and to partner with staff to protect our students.” It continued: “Books are not removed simply because they feature LGBTQ characters, and there are still books available that include these characters.”
In a new development,
'a high-ranking legislator from North Dakota, Mike Lefor, is proposing the inevitable next step: banning these books from public libraries.'

Code Club 4/2/2023
Paignton Library code club is attendee ship is picking up nicely, We are still using scratch but some of us are slowly moving to text based languages in some form or other.
The core code club activities are still available. If you have been Scratch or other block based coding for a while then you may want to start looking at the next stage. which could be useful if starting with the Raspberry Pi.
I have included a link to the GNU/Linux command line BASH shell tutorials,
If you would like to start undertaking more with Python, we have 4 copies of the Python for beginners book on the shelf, and there is a copy in the Library which can be borrowed. The Pis and laptops / netbooks do have Python installed. But it may just be easier to get a Repl.it account
Going further, the two laptops I gave out on the 7th have the GoDot game engine installed, this is for creating more advanced games, the main language for this is GD Script.
For those of you working on Responsive web design then this seems to be going really well.
There are also some contests you can get involved with, some of these are listed below.
