Everyone's Invited ( EI ) – Revisited
Just been filling out an application form for TA post. As part of this, there is reference to KCSIE PART 1, Section 220, P 53
220. In addition, as part of the shortlisting process schools and colleges should consider carrying out an online search as part of their due diligence on the shortlisted candidates. This may help identify any incidents or issues that have happened, and are publicly available online, which the school or college might want to explore with the applicant at interview
As the application process is two way, I decided to revisit the Everyone's Invited website and try and cross reference local schools with reports of abuse that the site collects.
The idea of this is to determine if the school I am applying to is listed, and if so I can prepare some questions for interview. For the record they are NOT listed. So basically the same reasons schools carry out these searches KCSIE PART 1, Section 220, P 53
The last time I did a similar search, I found 4/5 local schools where incidents have been reported / submitted. Today I counted 12. I need to make a more thorough check. But the conclusion is clear anyway...
The issue therefore seems to be getting worse, this appears to be compounded by the desire not to give children criminal records. So given that this abuse has life long consequences (especially rape and sexual assault). it appears that there are no life long consequences for those who commit those crimes.
I am not sure how the system works. If those who commit these offences, try and get jobs with vulnerable groups, will their DBS & other background checks flag the offences? I am guessing not, unless they have been given a caution, warning or prosecution.
On the other hand, if any record is wiped at 18 the this surely could potentially puts people at SERIOUS risk of harm.
If I have misconstrued something here, then I will accept my error, providing evidence is presented that can reassure me that those who commit sexual offences such as those submitted to EI, when they under 18i's ( regardless of victims age ) are prevented from working in positions of trust in the future
The website and testimonies therein speak for themselves.
As someone who is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people The idea that even in 2022, victims who take the time and courage to come forward and report offences, to be fobbed off and /or ignored disgusting. By failing to act in an effective way is equally disgusting.
I would therefore encourage anyone who is applying for work in schools to cross reference the school with the above website.
