We had a very quiet session today for some reason. Based on the list of attendees booked I set up 3 computers with blender, then also the teaching PC and projector to play a video introducing Blender.
I did have 3 people attend, they were regulars to Code Club but not booked, nevertheless we had a good session with some scratch and discussions around social media.
Right at the end I had two people arrive who are are now booked on to the next session on the 5th November. I will factor this in and sort out some resources so they can start with module 1 of Scratch and work through the various modules and activities.
As sessions are two hours, this gives ample time to not only complete the activity but also move on to adapting the finished project further.
However I think they have another project in mind so I will look at finding some useful resources for that too.
I also used the time to print off the remaining Data Detox workshop slides so I have all of these printed along with their respective support materials ready for a future session.
Nuclear fusion plant to be built at West Burton A power station.
This sounds like a really exciting development and should hopefully help the UK take the lead in a clean and sustainable energy resource.
This is also an excellent reason, regardless of where you live to study STEM. While this plant is not due to start until 2040. This is only 18 years away, so if you are heading in to year 7, then by the time you have obtained a post graduate or other hi-tech qualification you should be employable within this industry.
This was on BBC TV Breakfast this morning, start of a campaign to warn of dangers of trespassing on the railway,
The railway is full of hidden dangers. When you trespass on the railway there are serious and catastrophic consequences for you, your loved ones, rail staff, and communities as a whole.
While NASA has been busy with the Artemis mission to the moon, which has been subject to technical setbacks, more recently a weather event. Nevertheless they are still busy.
Their latest mission (DART), has been a success. The idea behind this, is to crash a probe in to an asteroid, with the view to changing it's trajectory. This is useful as once we know that this is possible, we can protect the Earth from incoming asteroids or potentially other objects.
I have asked a few related questions on Science Forums, a link to which is below.
The October STEM group meeting will be taking place on Saturday 8/10/2022.
Harding is looking at doing a talk / discussion on
Historical units, and dimensions in equations.
For engineering equations I offer two examples:-
The bending of beams
Aerodynamic lift from a wing.
Well will also have Prospects from Brixham joining us
Prospects have interest in “data, data analytics, data science, perhaps making things with sensors and Raspberry Pis”
