Debian Academy update

As posted about on the 14th September I am involved in the DebianAcademy.

In addition making various related presentations in LaTeX / Beamer. I am currently working on a Moodle course how to do this.

So the LaTeX template, is being used as part of the course, and it can also be used as a basis for other presentations.

So far this is work in progress.

In other news I have submitted an article to the Torbay Weekly to promote the DebianAcademy and reach out to a few more potential contributors.

I still need to complete the FreeCodeCamp course I am undertaking, I am also undertaking Teaching Primary Science : Chemistry With futurelearn.

Hopefully however, this is useful. I have shared on with Paignton Library on Twitter and with the Local Children and Young People partnership.

In the night sky : Orion Completed

I have finally, after months of going back and forth to this, partly due to other study and things to do. Completed the 24 hour OU / OpenLearn Course. I was just doing this casually anyway.

Note: This is a Level 1 Open University course.

After studying this course, you should be able to:

* Understand facts, concepts, principles, theories, classifications and language used in astronomy * Understand the range of sizes, distances and motions of objects in the night sky * Understand the structure, evolution and the main processes operating in stars * Understand the properties of planets in our Solar System and exoplanetary systems * Understand the history of the universe.

Really interesting course, lots to think about and learn just from doing some of the research for the questions posed during the course.

Astronomy uses the greek alphabet for star names for example so this post may help.

Free Code Camp – Progress 1

I have been working through the first part of the FreeCodeCamp responsive web design course and have now completed all 28 exercises for the HTML part of the course.

I will also be working on this at Code Club, the South Devon Tech Jam and supporting other learners who are undertaking this course at the above events.

This is proving popular, with those who are undertaking this course and a great way to learn essential IT / Computing skills.

I am now going to start on the CSS section of the course. As this will help me support the learners as they move up to this.
