I have been catching up on these lectures as they are fascinating. The LISA talk was also good as it gave a lot of background information as to the science behind this. Exciting times to come, even though it may be a decade before the mission is launched in to space.

Astronomers using the James Webb Space Telescope are finding too many early galaxies,

Looks like the JWST is sending back some fantasic science but also getting us to re-write much about what we thought we knew about the early universe.

It has only been running fully for about 7 months and it has sent back more science, which is going to keep people busy for decades.

A great time to study #Astronomy.

This sounds like a really good development, and shows how exciting things are going to get. I have replied and mentioned the Nancy Grace Telescope (due later this decade) and asked about the difference between a space telescope and one placed on the dark side of the moon.

This is another reason to STUDY STEM, and include maths, computing within that so we have people to help analyse all the data being sent back, and we also need people to design, build everything around this.

Because of the fantastic success of #JWST, now astronomers want even more powerful gear up in space.

They are planning the Habitable Worlds Observatory that would be even bigger and make detecting life on other #Earth-like #planets reality.

The telescope will also be perched at L2. Unlike JWST, it will be designed for robotic servicing and upgrades, which could enable it to operate for decades.

The August STEM group meeting took place on Saturday 13/8/2022. It was a quiet meeting but fairly productive.

I partly set up a monitor / keyboard and mouse as I was expecting 2 attendees to come along for help with a Raspberry Pi. They didn't make it so we just carried on with the other planned activities.

We watched the August Space Telescope Science Institute public lecture ( recording ) and had an interesting discussion around this, which also led to a discussion on photography and infra red and UV filtering. Harding also offered a talk on Space and time, which we will discuss further and agree for a later date.

Prior to the meeting starting, and with help from Loic at the library, we set up a tablet with the Lego WeDo 2.0 and got this working. So this is another activity for both Code Club and a future STEM Group meeting.

The next two Code Club will take place on the 20th August and 3rd September, while the next STEM group meeting will be on 10th September. So hopefully more of the same.
