Typesetting Math multiplication
There are several different ways to express multiplication in Mathematics. As \LaTeX is (or can be) used to typeset mathematical and scientific expressions. The following may be useful.
In general we use the $\ce{\times}$ symbol to express multiplication, for example 12 $\ce{\times}$ 6
This can be type set using
12 $\ce{\times}$ 6
However it may also be expressed with * in which case we just use
12 * 6
In algebra, this can be expressed as:
AB
Where A is 12 and B is 6
However you may come across the use of a dot
12 $\ce{\cdot}$ 6
In which case we use
12 $\ce{\cdot}$ 6

Plastic waste
Interesting article on Knowledge magazine, looking at solving the plastic waste problem
We need more thinking like this that leads to action and results rather than simply keep talking about it.
Study STEM and be part of the drive to develop solutions.

Volcanoes and Ozone
This was posted to the fediverse after I asked how the ozone layer is being further depleted despite the world wide ban on CFCs and similar chemicals. It turns out that a volcano can throw out chemicals that can react and reduce Ozone (O_3) in the atmosphere.

CanSat Contest
The UK CanSat Competition 2023/24 is open for registration. Don’t miss out on your chance to enter, the deadline is the 17th of October 2023.
CanSat provides students with the opportunity to have practical experience working on a small-scale space project. Students (14+) can enter the CanSat competition and design their own satellite simulation in a soft drink can.

Predatory Science
This was posted to the Fediverse. Really interesting article given the current climate of misinformation. We now have bad academic practice which is leading to the publication of poor quality science and research.
This as the article says, undermines science that is conducted properly, peer reviewed and is robust so that quality and most importantly trust is maintained.
You can read the article here
Trust in science is essential,
The website Sense About Science has some excellent resources, including information on Peer review processes and how peer review can help science.
You can perhaps discuss further on Science forums or just perhaps join the fediverse

A Giant Black Hole Destroyed a Star and Threw the Pieces into Space
I am sharing this 'as-is' the original fediverse post text is quoted below along with a link to the article.
A pair of X-ray telescopes have observed the messy aftermath of a star that came too close to a supermassive black hole 290 million light-years away. It's believed that the star had three times the mass of the Sun, so this was one of the largest tidal disruption events ever seen. Although the black hole consumed some of the star, most of its guts were thrown into the surrounding space, polluting the region with the chemicals that allowed astronomers to estimate its stellar mass.
