Here are links to my other Internet presences and online places that I like and use. As far as personal links, this blog is my main form of expression online, so there might not be much to see elsewhere, but I prefer to keep all of my Internet content connected. For outside links, my purpose is to try to maintain a small Internet directory to promote sites and services that I think are useful.
The first list, below, are my personal links. Some of the below links have content that is regularly updated, some of them don't see regular (or any) maintenance. Here is my Internet directory, loosely organized by category. Since these are tools that I've come across, they definitely won't all appeal to everyone, but I'm hoping that I can give some recommendations across a few interest groups and improve other peoples' Internet lives at least a little bit. Some recommendations are very popular, some are not. I just want to give all of the sites that I actually like a spot in one of these lists.
Games: – play.tetris.com Decent Tetris if you use an ad blocker and mute the tab. – tetr.io The best version of Tetris on the Internet. Free and has a good Zen mode. – Vintage Story A good game for Minecraft nostalgia and new challenge.
Tools: – MDBG A good online Chinese dictionary for use with typing and text. – Nook Radio Relaxing Animal Crossing music for study and work. – Pleco The best Chinese-English dictionary tool I know of for mobile devices, with excellent handwriting recognition. – 工具邦 A site full of great tools in Traditional Chinese, including train timetables at tw.piliapp.com/tw-railway for Taiwan Railways.
Lifestyle services: – Furnished Finder Furnished monthly rentals. I don't even use this site, but I find its design good and the concept to be great. I learned about it via a friend who interned in Florida. – RailRat An Amtrak train tracker. Real-time delay info and decent design.
Web tools: – Bitwarden A really excellent password manager that works extremely well and backs up online for only $10/year. – DuckDuckGo NoAI A mainstream browser that attempts to block AI from search results. – Proton Well-encrypted cloud services up to modern standards. I don't use it regularly, but I've used it in the past and it's far better than Gmail or Outlook for webmail. – Signal An easy to use peer-to-peer chat service. I would use this for all of my messaging if all of my friends and family would agree to it.
News (United States): – NPR Well-formatted public news. No paywalls and no kowtowing to any Supreme Leaders. – EFF Deeplinks Everything you may or may not want to know about federal and local governments in the United States using electronics to invade privacy.
