Goodbye Twitter

Due to the continuing situation on Twitter and the abysmal treatment of the employees who have worked so hard to build the platform on to be sacked less than a month after the Elon Musk take over.

I am quitting Twitter.

I have been on Mastodon for a good few years now, the culture is far kinder, the conversation is far more intellectual and intelligent. There has been huge influx of new people adding to this culture and providing some really engaging content so the future is looking really good.

Please feel free to join an instance and follow me: my id is on the contact page.

If you need help joining up, I suggest contacting your local college or training provider. They should be up-to-date with modern social media and be able to help, if not there are plenty of guides, such as those on Fedi Tips. Once you are signed up we as a community will help you get started etc.

Someone has to make a stand, and so many people are leaving it is no longer worth being on there.

See you on the next generation of social media. This is a place where your privacy is important, there is no tracking, adverts, AI, data, data analytics or other such irrelevant outdated technologies.

If you would like to find people, check out the Fedi directory.

Self hosting Mastodon

With the recent migration from Twitter to Mastodon, there has been discussions around people self hosting instances.

To this end, I am trying to compile a list of required skills to help people with the process.

I would assume if you want to self host an instance, then you are already on Mastodon anyway. If not It would be beneficial to join mastodon in the first instance that way you can ask questions about this directly, to this end there is a invite link here

First and foremost, being familiar with the Unix command line is important. There are lots of options

The Internet is full of fantastic learning opportunities, so perhaps start off looking at the following :

  • Free Code Camp which will probably cover most of the above.
  • Computer series this is a series of videos / posts I compiled to try and help people with some of the learning needed to move on to learning about cybersecurity.

If you need help, there are several people on Mastodon who you can follow such as @[email protected] and myself @[email protected], even though I am probably not much help other than trying to find people or resources to help and updating this page of course.

Artemis 1 – Mission part 8

The plan is to try another launch during week commencing 14/11/2022. Check the NASA site for details. Fingers Crossed the launch can go ahead after a series of setbacks due to weather, technical issues etc.

Latest Update

Meteorologists with the U.S. Space Force Space Launch Delta 45 currently predict 90% favorable weather conditions for the Artemis I launch targeted for Nov. 16. Liftoff is scheduled for 1:04 a.m. EST with a two-hour launch window.

The mission management team will meet this afternoon to review the status of preparations for launch. NASA will host a teleconference at 7 p.m. to discuss the outcome following the meeting. Listen on the agency’s website at: [https://www.nasa.gov/live] (https://www.nasa.gov/live).
