Having a place to be is one of our most basic needs. If we aren't assured of our place our mind will demand we attend to this lack.
What our minds can force our attention to is very interesting. What is it that makes those decisions? Do you consider that to be you? How complex is the thinking that results in this? Does it use language too?

Opening the laptop is like taking a dive
with my eyes closed
I can't see the bottom
I don't know for how long I will fall
There's no changing course
I just hope I land somewhere nice

What is broken which makes our opportunities so particular, specialized, unique, and our disappointments so great? Why are the things we might want made so rare? Could not everyone have a place by the fire? Companions to share bread? How could these things have been lost?

Smiling just to make others smile.
Letting the silence be after a lapse in conversation.
Comfort with another's presence, even when reaching across you or sitting right beside.
When eye contact and the subtlest facial expression are as good as a high-five.
This comradery may be our most valuable thing.

Do you have the magic key? The one that can set anybody free? That reminds myself that there is no me? Which can make you tear up just from looking at a tree? Proving that the world is as fantastic as can be? Allowing us to truly see?
Well bring it by, I'll make you tea.

Hardly ever is there truly no noise in the places I find myself. Relatively little noise is often better anyway, being more consistent than a striking silence broken everytime you breathe or move.
Some small burble of stream, wind in grass, chirr of insect, or melting ice is nice.

This time is certainly going to go by whether I feel I used it well or not.
But we don't really use time, it's just a measurement. You may use the figure, to explain or to estimate. You may use the measured count to know when to act but you don't use what is being measured. You just act. You do things.
Also, other things happen and then impact you after. So sometimes your action or inaction is superseded by external factors.
Attempting to predict what will happen so you can define what you do as worthwhile or not may not be worth your time.

I don't know how other people perceive me
I'm not them after all.
Sometimes I'm told but
that's hardly a glimpse into their minds.
I interpret their direct or indirect statements how I will, with the limitations imposed by the language and my mind.
If we could really tell, and really change ourselves to suit each other, instead of stumbling around on this blind trip through the social landscape, things would not be so surprising, but many of those unexpected or rare connections would lose their magic.

Everyone on the subway, minding their own business, avoiding eye contact, wishing they were already at their destination. Perhaps if they connected with other lonesome travelers the time aboard would pass more swiftly, more enjoyably, commuting might become a treat.

Unblemished nature. Tranquil scene.
Green plant, wet with dew, over a pool filled by a spring. Filtered light, form a canopy high above, glints off dew drops, off the pool, and almost off the air itself.
Frogs move along leaves. Birds come to drink.
If you were there they'd all hide away.
