It would be amazing if you can just click a switch and never watch porn again

It would be amazing if you can just click the OFF switch in your brain and you can stop watching pornography from that moment. Not be addicted to it. Evaluate your porn created ideas about sex, love, relationships, etc. Unlearn your porn induced biases.

Life sticks. For better or worse. Habits stick. Consistency is not good only for good things, it is also good for bad things too.

“Practices makes perfect” is to be taken literally.

Bad practice makes incorrectness or mediocrity your perfect/default state.

Practice of porn also makes it your perfect solution to every problem in your life. If practiced or used that way.

Wishful thinking is fine. But you can't overcome your addictions that easily.

The neural links in our brain can't be simply changed so easily. You need effort. I remember reading about Tiger Woods changing his stroke style or something 5 – 10 years ago. It made him score very low in golf in the short term. But he came out brilliantly in the end. Even world-class sports people can have mistakes in their practice it seems.

If quitting cold turkey worked for you. Congratulations, you can skip this since you won't be able to relate to this much. But I hope you can say why it worked for you. Because I too would very much like it. I have heard you need to reach rock bottom for it to usually work though.

Expect failure

Failure happens. It is normal. Don't focus too much on a single failure. See the big picture. You should focus on winning the war. Progress matter more than badge counter or no of days since porn. Sometimes your progress may feel minimal or non-existent. But you need to push through.

Amazon as a company has the idea that failure is essential. They classify decisions as one way doors or two-way doors. If a decision is reversible, then they just choose one quickly and move on with life.

People are different

You will feel like giving up. I mean, you probably know many people who have a healthy or less addictive relationship with porn. So why can't you be just like them? But I think it is not possible for us. We need to realize what is good for us and what is not. Some may be able to control things like porn, gaming, sugar, etc. But it doesn't necessarily mean you can or should try too. I have realized that controlling my porn won't work. My goal has shifted to abstinence in the long term.

You don't need porn

You may feel like how can you live your life not using porn? I too feel like that. It is just your mind playing tricks on you. Porn is a recent invention. It is not needed for survival. Not sure about masturbation. But people do say even that is not needed. Require good source for that.

The journey may be different but the goal is the similar

I am on the path to recovery and so are you. You and I may not be going through the same struggles or using the same methods. But what matters is that we reach our goal of not watching porn, not needing porn and becoming a better person.
