Flourishing...

She has a tendency to get carried away, regardless of what it is that interests her.

This time it's plants. Oh, oh so many plants.

I suppose, in part, we're to blame as well. It's a hobby we picked up together, after all. One we fully encourage.

Weekly trips to the nursery serve only to further feed our obsession. What had began with a mere box had evolved, now taking up a an entire table. Pot after pot filled it's dusty surface, soaking up all the sunlight in our poor Gramma's room.

I sit beside her as she goes over the plants once more, listing each of their names quietly to herself and ensuring their soil was damp. Rose is stood a short distance away, leaned against the edge of the table as she watches us. There's an ever present look of snarky amusement on her features.

“So...when do we get more?”

“Dear god, Rose, we've nearly thirty at this point. Do we truly need more?” I give her an exasperated look.

We were set to move in a few months time. Realistically, we shouldn't have even gathered as many as we had. Our family would never tend to them when we left. They'd be lucky to survive the winter.

Rose offers a light shrug. “Just saying. It'd be fun to get one or two more before we go.”

No one dignifies that with a response. Instead, our companion dusts off her hands and gives a pleased nod of affirmation. “They're all set. Should be good for another couple days. I'm glad we got them all pulled inside.”

With a grin, Rose pushes herself away from the table. She slings her arm around our friend's shoulder and jabbers on as she guides her towards the door, discussing what we could do next.

We could game? Go visit the nursery? Watch something tonight? As long as we did our daily journal entry, I couldn't care less. Things had been so lively since Rose had joined us. Since we had moved back to the states. The past year and a half had been a thing of bliss, regardless of life's struggles.

I push to my feet and begin to trail along a short distance behind.

“Perhaps we could go out for an afternoon snack. Grab a drink and some tots down the road.” I call after them. I hear Rose's pleased gasp ahead of me, and she eagerly agrees.

“Okay, okay, okay.” Our companion declares as she goes to grab her keys. “Tots it is. But we're -not- going back to the nursery today.”

I hesitate in the doorway, shooting the plants on the table one last glance, a gentle smile playing on my lips.

The flowers weren't the only thing flourishing here.
